NextGen UBE

The Board of Governors met on April 29, 2026, and approved a Bar Rule Proposal to begin accepting NextGen UBE scores. This would begin with the July 2026 administration. The proposal includes a scaled score of 620 or above for the NextGen UBE, which maps to our Legacy UBE scaled score of 270 or above. The intent is to begin administering the exam in July 2028. The Bar Rule Proposal will go out in this summer’s Bar Rag for public comment. It will then be submitted to the Alaska Supreme Court.

For more information on the NextGen UBE, please visit NextGen UBE (ncbex.org).

Effective with the July 2026 bar exam, the following areas will no longer be tested on the MEE: Conflict of Laws, Family Law, Trusts and Estates, and Secured Transactions. From July 2026 through February 2028, both Family Law and Trusts and Estates will be tested regularly through the Multistate Performance Test.
